HISTORY: A Legacy of Service

The Meinecke-Johnson Company’s tradition dates back before the turn of the century when Casper Johnson first sank his roots into the Red River Valley soil. Decades later, he brought his son Arthur into the family business to help it grow. Among the projects they completed together was Moorhead High School, which opened its doors in 1919. (Today the venerable building on Eighth Street South, rechristened Townsite Center, houses a variety of public-spirited organizations.)

Arthur Johnson became associated with what’s now the Meinecke-Johnson Company in 1928. Two more generations of Johnsons have followed him into the firm. They have contributed much to the quality of life in eastern North Dakota and northwestern Minnesota , from hospitals and schools to shopping malls, office buildings and public facilities like the new RedHawks baseball stadium. At the same time, the firm takes pride in its support of the institutions it builds, with a long record of philanthropy in religion, education and other public-spirited pursuits.

Some were built in our great-grandparents’ day and still serve the children well. Others, new on the area’s horizon, accommodate the region’s rapid growth in business and industry, retail and education.

Each construction project we tackle is unique in what it means to our customer. Yet each stands to benefit from our long years of experience in working in the industries we target:
